VCT Information for ACC Faculty
Administrative & Instructional IssuesOnline SyllabusSyllabi for all courses offered through the VCT program must be posted to the VCT website.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ATTACHING / EDITING A SYLLABUS:Note: You can copy and paste most file formats (e.g., Word, WordPerfect, text, HTML) into the syllabus field. However, you cannot copy and paste Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files.
You may revise, edit, or update a syllabus at any time. Simply return to the "Instructors" page and follow the steps again. HYPERLINKS WITHIN A SYLLABUS:If you copy your syllabus from an online webpage, the links will most likely not remain LIVE when pasted into the Editor. To make the links live in an online syllabus, follow these steps:
TIPS & TRICKS FOR WORKING WITH THE ONLINE EDITOR:The Editor for pasting your syllabus is very basic. Pasting simple text is usually not a problem, but if you attempt to paste complex tables or images, it will not accept them, or if it does, it usually creates problems with the rest of your text. If you have a small, basic table you would like to use in your syllabus, one possibility is to use the table feature (click the table icon with the pencil) in the online Editor itself. When you run your mouse over the icon it reads, "Inserts a new table." For more complex tables or images, try converting your table or image into an HTML or PDF file and linking to that URL using the steps above. Another trick is to cut and paste the text into Notepad (located in the Accessories file in your list of programs), and then cut and paste the text from Notepad back into the online Editor. It always accepts the text without incident. (This only works for text without complex formatting.) [top] Faculty LoadingSpaces for VCT students are set aside within the ACC course limit to avoid overloading the section. The class limit is reduced by the number of spaces set aside for VCT students; courses with lower enrollment limits have fewer VCT spaces set aside. Spaces not used by VCT students at the end of each session's regular registration period revert back to the ACC registration system for Add/Drops, keeping LEH calculation to the projected normal workload. However, if for some reason the enrollment number goes beyond the class limit, the LEH would be adjusted to reflect the overload for payment. [top] RostersVCT students register at their local Host College; therefore, they do not appear in Datatel or Online Services, and are not included on ACC class rosters. Faculty receive a copy of the VCT reservation when students register for their class, and Distance Learning will forward a preliminary roster at the end of the VCT reservation period. ACC instructors sign Host Colleges' Day of Record (DOR) Rosters online, eliminating the need to mail original documents between the Host and Provider Colleges. Please follow these instructions:
[top] Student OrientationsOrientation is equally critical for VCT student success as it is for other Distance Learning students. Because VCT students are not able to participate in on-site DL Course Orientations, alternative arrangements should be made for VCT students if the course orientation is not already online. Instructors receive student contact information on the VCT Reservation Form and on VCT rosters. Any hard-copy materials should be forwarded to the Distance Learning Office as early as possible for dissemination to the Host College and/or student. [top] TextbooksVCT students receive a welcome memo from Distance Learning that includes details about ordering textbooks online from the ACC Bookstore at http://austincc.bncollege.com, the most reliable option for textbook purchases. [top] TestingTesting is conducted through the VCT student's Host College Testing Center. Please submit all testing materials for the course to the Distance Learning Office as early as possible to allow maximum testing time for VCT students. A completed VCT Testing Transmittal Form detailing deadlines, special instructions, etc., should be included. (If the instructor has multiple VCT colleges represented on the preliminary roster, one "master" Transmittal Form may be submitted. Leave student and VCT college information blank. Distance Learning will duplicate the form as needed.) ACC's VCT Coordinator organizes all testing arrangements with the Host College to maintain the integrity of the testing process. Completed exams will be returned directly to the instructor by the Host College Testing Proctor for grading. [top] Final Grade ReportsSince VCT students do not do not appear in Datatel or the Faculty Online Services system, they are also not included on ACC final grade reports. When a Host College's registrar releases a VCT Final Grade Report, the ACC instructor will automatically receive an email explaining that the grade report is available for appropriate action. Please follow these instructions to sign Host College's Final Grade Reports: Note: Instructors will need to use their online signature. (See instructions at Rosters above.)
After grades on rosters have been confirmed, you may not change the grade online. If a grade change is warranted, contact the Host College's VCT Final Grade Administrator. For a list of Host Colleges' Final Grade Administrators, go the VCT "Instructors" page and select the link titled, "Contact Information for Host Colleges' Day of Record Administrators and Final Grade Administrators."
