Conferencing Services
As a service to the Austin Community College community, VSS offers various conferencing services. Use of the Interactive Video Classrooms (IVC) are provided to assist departments and external organizations in hosting: Additionally, technical support and/or training are offered to assist with the use of the IVC technology and equipment available. Scheduling a conferencing event is EASY and a great way to enhance or facilitate instructional lectures or meetings. Similar in concept to combining a telephone conference with a video conference, interactive video conferencing utilizes two-way picture and sound communication stations that are excellent for:
VSS can connect you anywhere in the world via ISDN circuits or IP video connections. Videoconferences have been conducted around the world to locations including Moscow, Russia, Scotland, Holland, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, Canada, New Zealand. We also connect to other educational institutions all over the country and abroad. At each ACC remote site, participants have access to the Internet, PowerPoint, electronic "chalk" boards, an Elmo document camera, and VHS and DVD playback to enhance the experience. The presenter can be taught to operate the IVC system or an IVC facilitator can be provided. Our bridge is capable of connecting up to 70 remote sites, however, VSS recommends connecting to 10 or less to ensure a smooth video conference. A webcast similar to a broadcast television program but designed to be viewed over the Internet. Providers allow ACC to connect to a server which is distributing the webcast in order to display the visual content in a browser. An LCD projector or a plasma screen is used to project the web content to the audience. If the webcast does not offer audio through the computer, attendees can access accompanying audio by utilizing the high quality Polycom speaker phone located in each IVC. In addition, after the original event airs, often the providing company will archive the stream, enabling viewers to watch the broadcast at their convenience.
