Scheduling Distance Learning Classes

There are two scenarios for scheduling Distance Learning sections: one for scheduling new DL courses and one for adding sections of existing DL courses. Each scenario requires forms and processes for getting the section into the schedule. The following procedures standardize the process for each scenario, and provide information about the section-specific details that appear in the ACC Course Schedule.

Scheduling New DL Courses

To request a new course, the faculty member, Department Chair, or Dean completes a DL Course Approval Form. The form is required when a faculty member or department wants to:

  • Adapt an existing on-campus course to a DL format
  • Change or add a delivery mode for an existing DL course
  • Develop a course that is new to the ACC Catalog and delivered only in a DL format
    (Requires Curriculum Committee approval)
  • Adapt courses for an entire degree or certificate program to be delivered via DL
    (An approval form must be completed for each course that will be part of the degree program.)

The DL Course Approval Form provides Distance Learning with a projected completion date for developing the course. Also included are sections dealing with "Course Management Policies & Procedures" and "Administrative Issues." The form must be sent to the Department Chair and the Dean for approval. Return the signed form to the Distance Learning Office, Pinnacle Campus. (The form may be faxed to (512) 223.8988, but he original form must also be sent to Distance Learning.) The form is filed with other courses under development and held until DL receives notice from the instructor that the course has been completed and is ready to be added to the schedule. Note: Due to budgetary and scheduling issues, please contact the Director of Distance Learning before completing the form if the new section is an Instructional Television (ITV) course.

Once a course is complete, fill out a Request for Adding a Section of a Distance Learning Course to the Schedule Form. This form notifies Distance Learning that a section of the course is ready to be added to the schedule. Please indicate the first semester—and all subsequent semesters—that the course is to be offered. Course Schedule Note information and DL Course Orientation instructions should also be provided on the form, so they can be included in the schedule. The form must be sent to the Department Chair and the Dean for approval. Return the signed form to Distance Learning. Once the approved form is received, DL contacts Curriculum Services to add the section to the schedule.

Scheduling Additional DL Sections

Complete a Request for Adding a Section of a Distance Learning Course to the Schedule Form to request an additional section of a course be added to the schedule. (A DL Course Approval Form must already be on file with Distance Learning for the course and delivery mode being requested through this form.) The form is sent to the Department Chair and the Dean for approval. Return the signed form to the Distance Learning Office, Pinnacle campus. Once the approved form is received, Distance Learning contacts Curriculum Services to add the section to the schedule. Note: Due to budgetary and scheduling issues, please contact the Director of Distance Learning before completing the form if the new section is an Instructional Television (ITV) course.

In order to ensure a balanced supply of course sections and meet student demands, Distance Learning reserves the right to review the modes of departmental section offerings.
