The design and adaptation of IVC courses will continue to be an important area of emphasis for ACC. Demand for DL courses continues to grow at approximately 20% per year. IVC delivered classes provide flexibility for faculty members and students. These classes enable students in various underserved locations to take ACC courses. Instructional Design Process Advance course preparation is critical to effective teaching in an IVC. It doesn't make a difference whether the course is being taught for the first time or has been taught many semesters; the process for developing an IVC course follows many of the same instructional design steps. When designing or revising a course for an interactive video classroom, the instructor needs to include not only the Instructional Design process but also two important additional factors;
While the preparation for the first semester of an IVC course will be busy, it will save time in the long run. Syllabus Guidelines for IVC In addition to traditional course syllabus items such as course goals and objects, outline of course, grading policies etc., an IVC syllabus needs to contain items that are unique to interactive video technology. Lesson plans provide a framework for an instructor. Planned activities and exercises are more effective and can greatly enhance the productivity of a class. Instructors are free to adapt the suggested lesson plan format to their own courses and personalities. However, all lesson plans must show clear evidence that the instructor has included the major elements of a successful IVC session as outlined in the IVC lesson plan information. Engaging Students with Variety and Interaction In developing IVC lesson plans, variety and interaction help to keep student interest and motivation high. Use relevant visuals or sounds to illustrate points, and when possible, bring in a guest speaker to share a different perspective, answer questions, or provide real-world feedback on student projects. With an IVC class, some students are attending at a remote site location. Due to the distance between classrooms, it is important that the instructional methods used incorporate interactivity. Any instructional approach must account for the technology, delivery methods, and distance in order to be effective. Assessment Tools, Evaluations and Measurements for Course Success Assessments, evaluations, and measurement instruments are valuable tools to gauge a course's success and for meeting students' needs on an on-going basis. |
