Touch
the AMX Panel to view the screen. It may be
in hibernation mode if it has been inactive for a period of time.

Select the "Monitor Power" icon in the upper corner
of the screen
2.
Select "All Monitors" icon to turn on all the monitors
in the room.

| Monitors
Prior to beginning your class, the Polycom system
should already be connected to the remote (far) site. You will
see the remote site displayed on the monitor. If you do not see
the remote site, your facilitator will need to re-establish the
connection. (Note: the Eastview Health Sciences IVC building
has video projectors)
The right monitor is the Remote (far) monitor
and the left is the Local (near) monitor.

Camera Icons
Select the appropriate camera for the type of media
you want to project. Generally, you will want to select "Instructor"
camera.

The
order of the cameras are:
1. Student camera and Push-to-Talk microphones
(instructor can also select a student microphone manually)
2. Instructor camera
3. Document camera
4. Desktop camera
5. Laptop camera (allows you to connect an external laptop).
6. VCR Player control or the VCR
record controls
7. DVD Player Control
8. A/V Aux Control

Microphones
Polycom Instructor Microphone
An
instructor may want to mute the local microphone.
Student
Push To Talk Microphones
The Student Push to Talk Microphones focuses on a student who
first activates it. The microphone enables both sites to hear
and see the student asking a question. It also helps to promote
interactivity in the classroom.
A
faculty member can set the student microphone settings on "Auto"
or "Manual." If the student microphone icon on the AMX
panel is set to "Auto" then the Push to Talk feature
will work automatically. If, however an instructor would like
to call on a specific student or focus on a specific portion of
the classroom, he/she would select the "Manual" mode.
- Select
the Camera Control icon above the "Student Camera icon
of the AMX panel (see AMX panel camera instructions above).
- Select
Student Microphone and "Manual" icon (if the microphone
icon is set to "Auto" switch it to "Manual or
vice versa).
Note: The Push to Talk feature only works if the
microphone setting on the AMX panel is set to the "Auto"
mode. |

| VCR/DVD
Player
Load any video tapes, CD's or DVDs that you will be using.
Note:
if you attempt to access any of the media devices--DVD/VHS player--without
loading a DVD or VHS tape, you will receive an error message and
it may cause problems with the system. |

AMX
Touch Panel
The
AMX panel controls all of the Polycom room operations. The majority
of icons that an instructor needs is along the bottom third of
the screen (Local Source icons)
- Select
the camera you want. (along bottom third portion of panel--Green
section)
- Adjust
settings within that camera's dialog box.
- Load
appropriate media and select the touch screen icon for that
media device.
- To
display something full screen, touch the small display window
and it will change to full screen.

| Computer
Click

To
initiate any work on the Dell computer, move the mouse to view
the desktop of your computer.
Select
the Desktop icon from the bottom (green) panel. Your desktop computer
will display on the local (near) classroom and the remote (far)
site monitors.
You
can access any program on the computer. You can also bring files
that are on a zip disk, floppy, CD ROM etc. You can use the Desktop
icon to display: PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, streaming
and multi-media presentations, Excel spread sheets, ACC Intranet
sites, Blackboard course management materials, Internet web sites,
just to name a few. |

Document
Stand Camera
The
allows you to display overheads, magazine or newspaper materials,
books, etc. |

| 1.
Make sure the Document Camera has the correct settings for the
type of material that you will be presenting (i.e. for transparencies
you would want to use the base light, etc.).
2.
In general, you should make sure that "Internal" has
been selected from the Input Option Panel.

Fax
IVC fax machines enable sites to share documents, to quickly
send exercises, assignments, and exams among sites. For a listing

Speakerphone
The Polycom Soundstation Speakerphone is phone designed to accommodate
teleconferences and large groups of people. This phone can also
work as a back up audio source if an IVC IP connection is lost.

| Smartboard
To
operate the Smartboard, you need
to:
1.Select
the whiteboard icon from your desktop (the icon with the white
square with the red "S" on it).
2.
Select the "Desktop Computer " icon from the AMX Touch
Panel.
3.
Write on the white board. The text should be visible on the desktop
and the overhead projectors. Any text written on the whiteboard
will be displayed.
4.
After erasing the writing on the board, it is necessary to clear
it from computer memory. This "wipes the slate clean"
and allows you to write additional material. Push the "clear"
button to clear the writing out of memory.
Some
whiteboard units will have a "Start/Clear Screen" button
similar to the one shown to the right.

| Troubleshooting
If
the connection is lost during your class, you can get audio to
the remote site by calling it with the Polycom Speaker phone.
(Note:
it is recommended that you also provide a copy of your PowerPoint
slides to the facilitator at the remote site.) |
