Description

SmartBoard allows the instructor to project written text on the screens at both the near (local) and far (remote) sites.

For a list of Smartboard Quick Reference guides, select from one of the following options:

Operations

Initially:

To launch SmartBoard, do the following:

  • Make sure all markers and pens and the eraser are in their proper slots in the pen tray.
  • Make sure the green READY light is "on" in the lower right hand corner of the SMARTBoard.
  • Select the White Board icon on the desktop (small white Notebook icon with a red "S" in the middle). Once this is displayed on the screen, whatever is written on the board will be projected
  • Select the "Desktop Computer" Icon camera from the AMX Touch Panel. (you need to first select the "White Board" icon from the desktop before selecting the "Desktop" computer icon from the panel otherwise the white board will not display or work correctly).
  • Press the START/CLEAR ALL button on the right hand side next to the pen trays. This clears whatever may be still in the computer memory. Touching the SMARTBoard opens causes a white screen to appear on the LOCAL (right hand side) monitor.
  • Select the Desktop Icon from the AMX panel to display the board.
  • Make sure you have opened the Smartboard software on the desktop BEFORE selecting the desktop icon from the touch screen.

Text written on the White board can be seen on the "Desktop" computer.

It is important to thoroughly erase the white board before writing additional text.

Allow at least 6" from the edge of the white board to the beginning of any written text. The text will be more legible when displayed on a projection screen.

As you write on the white board, the text should be displayed on the Local Monitors.

PC - icon displays the PC screen such as a Windows application.
Select this icon to display a Windows application.

Desktop Computer displays what is written on the SMARTBOARD.

Using the Smart Board

  • Press firmly when using the markers or pens. The board is pressure sensitive, so it may take more pressure than you're used to using.
  • Write with letters at least two inches high.
  • (TIP: Don't brush your hand across the board, only the pen tip should be in contact with the board)
  • To write "invisibly" lift a marker from a tray, and begin writing on the board with your finger.
  • The local site will not be able to see what was written on the SMARTBoard, but can see it on the monitors.
  • The pen tray detects which tool (marker or eraser) was last removed.

Erasing / Clearing the Board

  • To erase small areas, use the edge of the eraser rather than the flat surface. Using the flat surface only erases part of the image or text.
  • To clear the board, press the START/CLEAR ALL button before you erase the SMART Board surface. This way they don't have to watch you erase the board.
  • If all the tools are in the tray, anything that touches the board will act as an eraser (including fingers). Always return the markers to their proper slots.

IMPORTANT:
Only use dry erase markers on the SMARTBoard.
For the IVC which have markers, if you use permanent markers instead of the designated Smart Board markers, you will damage the SMARTBoards.
