Distance Testing Program

Most DL students use the Academic Testing Centers on campus to satisfy course testing requirements. Students who live outside the Austin area may be able to have their exams proctored at another location through the Distance Testing program. Instructor pre-approval is required. Students are encouraged to discuss testing options with the instructor prior to registering for the class.

Distance Testing Procedure

Student Responsibilities:

  • The student will complete Part I of the Distance Testing Request & Transmittal Form and submit one copy to the instructor and another copy to the Distance Learning Office. (If Distance Testing services are needed for multiple classes, a separate form must be submitted for each course / instructor.)
  • The student will locate an official testing facility — such as a community college or university testing center — and make arrangements for proctored testing services. (The proctor's contact information must be included on Part I of the Distance Testing Request & Transmittal Form.)
  • The student is responsible for paying any fees that may be required by the proctor, as well as for paying postage to return the completed exams to the instructor by the testing deadline.

Instructor Responsibilities:

  • The instructor will confirm approval of Distance Testing services by completing Part II of the Distance Testing Request & Transmittal Form submitted by the student, and forwarding the form to Distance Learning along with a copy of the exams and any supplemental testing materials to be sent to the proctor.

Proctor Responsibilities:

  • The proctor will provide the student with the information to complete Part I of the Distance Testing Request & Transmittal Form, and notify the student of any fees or special requirements necessary for completion of the exams.
  • The proctor will provide Distance Learning with a confirmation (on official letterhead stationery or email from the institution's domain) of testing services for the student.
  • The proctor will provide the student with any supplemental materials authorized for the exams, as indicated on the Distance Testing Request & Transmittal Form (if not provided by the instructor or Distance Learning).
  • The proctor will return the completed exams, at the student's expense, to the instructor as indicated on the Distance Testing Request & Transmittal Form.

Distance Learning Responsibilities:

  • Distance Learning will maintain a record of the student's Distance Testing arrangements, and confirm the testing service with the proctor.
  • Distance Learning will send the instructor's exams and the completed Distance Testing Request & Transmittal Form to the proctor by express mail, ensuring a secure and timely delivery.
