Distance Learning Student Resources
Refer to the ACC website for a comprehensive list of student resources.
- Students may purchase textbooks, software, and other instructional supplies online from the ACC Bookstore. Textbooks for DL courses with on-campus orientations may also be purchased at the campus bookstore where the orientation is held, or at the Rio Grande Bookstore for DL courses with online orientations.
- Most DL students, including online (PCM) students, use the Academic Testing Centers to fulfill course examination requirements. Testing Centers are located at all full-time ACC campuses, and at the Fredericksburg, Round Rock, and San Marcos ACC Centers. Students must present an ACC Student ID card in order to use the Testing Centers; refer to the website for detailed procedures and hours of operation.
- : DL students who live outside the ACC service area and cannot travel to an ACC campus may be able to complete testing requirements through the Distance Testing Program with instructor pre-approval. Instructors do have the right to refuse Distance Testing requests, so it is strongly recommended that students obtain permission prior to registering. It is the student's responsibility to locate an official testing facility to proctor the exams. Refer to the Distance Testing Procedure for complete details.
- DL students have access to computing resources on-campus to complete course assignments, write papers, conduct research, use specialized course software, search the Internet, and communicate with their professors and classmates via web email.
- ACC Learning Labs provide one-on-one and group tutoring, as well as tutor-lead study groups in a variety of subject areas. Labs are located at all full-time ACC campuses, as well as at the Round Rock Higher Education Center.
- : Online tutoring is available for a number of subjects, including Grammar, Mathematics, Accounting, Spanish, and Economics. SMARTHINKING also offers an Online Writing Lab (OWL) to assist students with writing essays and papers in many disciplines. If you are interested in using SMARTHINKING, email Distance Learning for account information. (Free service is limited to 15 hours a semester, and is only available to ACC students currently enrolled in DL courses. Students must provide their full name and 7-digit ACC ID number to receive the SMARTHINKING account instructions.)
- Distance Learning students have online access to Library resources and services, in addition to on-campus services. Reference help, document delivery of articles and books, article databases, live chat, and more are all accessible online. DL students may also email ACC Library Distance Services or call 223.3066 for assistance.

Students must present an ACC Student ID Card to use campus services such as Libraries, Testing Centers, and Computer Labs. Students can visit an Admissions & Records Office one day after registering to have the photo ID card made. Students must present a valid state or federally issued photo ID, such as a Driver's License, to receive their ACC Student ID card.
ACC faculty evaluations are conducted each fall. Feedback received from the evaluations is vital to the success of the program; it is shared with instructional departments, and used to improve DL courses to better meet student needs. DL Faculty Evaluation Tutorial: During the evaluation period, DL students login to ACC Online Services and choose "Distance Learning Faculty Evaluation" from the menu. After selecting the current term, a listing of the student's DL courses will be displayed, along with the faculty names teaching the courses. The student selects each course/faculty member, completes the evaluation, and submits it. (Once an evaluation has been submitted, the student is no longer able to evaluate that course and instructor. Students will not be able to use the online evaluation once they have received a final grade for the course.) |
