SMARTHINKING for DL Students

What is SMARTHINKING?

SMARTHINKING is the leading provider of live, online tutoring, giving students access to academic support and independent study resources 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Austin Community College provides currently enrolled Distance Learning students with 15 hours of free access to SMARTHINKING tutoring services.

SMARTHINKING provides academic assistance in the following subjects and skills:

Math (Basic Math - Calculus II)
Statistics
Writing (all subjects)
Grammar
Accounting (Intro level Managerial and Financial Accounting)
Economics (Microeconomics and Macroeconomics)
Spanish (including a Spanish Essay Center)

Students can:

Drop in and work with an e-structor immediately during live tutoring hours;
Schedule an online tutoring session with a specific e-structor;
Submit a question and get a response, usually within 24 hours (guaranteed within 72 hours);
Use the Brainstorming Center to assist with ideas for papers;
Access the Grammar Center for quick reference to questions;
Submit a paper to the Online Writing Lab (OWL) to be critiqued and returned to the student usually within 24 hours (guaranteed within 72 hours);
Submit a draft of an essay written in Spanish, and receive criticism and feedback from a qualified Spanish e-structor within 72 hours;
Access a full range of study resources including sample problems, diagnostic tests, study skills, and writing manuals.

SMARTHINKING online sessions are archived and saved in the student's personal academic home page, so the student can always print the tutorial or go back to it later.

How do I access SMARTHINKING?

Due to the limited number of tutoring hours available, free SMARTHINKING service is only available to currently enrolled ACC Distance Learning students. Interested students should contact their Distance Learning instructor, or email Distance Learning for the account Username/Password and login instructions. Please note: Students must provide their full name, as it appears on file with the ACC Admissions & Records Office, and their 7-digit ACC ID number to receive the SMARTHINKING Username/Password.

How to create your personalized SMARTHINKING account:

Distance Learning students will be provided a generic Username/Password to access ACC's SMARTHINKING account. After logging into SMARTHINKING with this Username/Password, the student will be required to create a personalized user account with their own unique Username/Password by filling out an online registration form. Student accounts must be configured as follows:

In the First Name and Last Name fields, DL students must provide their full name, as it appears on file with the ACC Admissions & Records Office.
For their new Username, DL students must use their Last Name followed by their 7-digit ACC ID Number. Example: Smith01234
For their new Password, DL students may select their own Password.
In the Email Address field, DL students must provide a valid email address.

All SMARTHINKING accounts are verified. Accounts created for individuals not confirmed as ACC DL students will be terminated. In order to prevent disruption of tutoring services, DL students must provide accurate information when creating their personalized SMARTHINKING accounts.
