Faculty User Information |
Wimba enables ACC faculty to implement synchronous voice chat sessions, record, store and play audio discussion topics, develop audio assessment instruments, send and receive email messages with recorded audio, and develop voice announcements for students.
This page contains information on how to create Wimba audio tools both within Blackboard and by logging into Wimba.
There are two ways to create voice communication resources (voice announcements, voice board messages, live synchronous audio chat sessions, and voice emails). One way is to create the audio resources automatically within Blackboard. Another way is to log into Wimba and create them from Wimba's web site.
Wimba Voice Communication tools can be automatically created and stored within Blackboard. The four voice communication tools that instructors can create within Blackboard are the following:
- Voice Announcements
- Voice Board (recorded audio discussion board messages)
- Voice Direct (live, synchronous chat sessions)
- Voice Email
Audio resource created within Blackboard are developed in one of three course content areas:
- Syllabus
- Course Documents
- Assignments
A voice communication tool is stored and available in whichever course content area it was created in.
In addition to a course content area, voice announcements can also be created by selecting the Voice Announcements link from Blackboard's Course Tools section of the Control Panel. Voice Announcements created from the course tools section are stored on the course's general announcement's page.

Face to face, hands-on workshops on how to create audio recordings within Blackboard are available by going to ACC's on-line workshop data base at: https://workshops.austincc.edu/. (copy and paste the name: Creating Audio Recordings within Blackboard into the workshop database search field and a list of upcoming workshops will be displayed)
If you do not have a Blackboard account, review ACC's on-line information on how to get started with Blackboard at: http://itdl.austincc.edu/blackboard/instrstart.htm .
In addition to creating audio resources within Blackboard, ACC instructors can also create audio resources and elements by logging into Wimba. Also, if an instructor wants to create Oral Assessments, he or she must have students log into Wimba.
If you don’t already have a Wimba account, contact Jim Holzknecht at jholzkne@austincc.edu or 223-8011.
