| Getting Starting With Wimba |
This section will assist you in getting started with Wimba from obtaining a Wimba account, running a computer diagnostic test, verifying the technical requirements for Wimba, as well as accessing Wimba and addressing frequently asked questions about Wimba.
Wimba is accessible in one of two ways. One is by accessing the audio resource directly within Blackboard. Another is by logging into Wimba.
To access Wimba's Voice Communication tools within Blackboard, do the following:
Log into your course's Blackboard account at http://acconline.austincc.edu. Wimba Voice Communication tools (Voice Announcements, Voice Email, Voice Board and Voice Direct) will be available in one of three Course Content areas within Blackboard:
- Syllabus
- Course Documents
- Assignments
Your instructor will tell you which of the three content areas to access. From your course's main Blackboard page, select one of the three course content areas where your audio resource is located.
There will be a link below the name of the voice tool your instructor has created. Simply click on the link provided and the voice tool will be launched. Make sure you run a diagnostic test on your computer to ensure that the audio resources will work on your system.
In addition to recording voice communication tools in one of the three course content areas listed above, your instructor can also record general voice announcements which are accessible from your course's main announcement's page.
In order to log into Wimba’s web site and use the audio tools, you must have an email account. If you don’t already have an email account and would like a free account, go to http://www.yahoo.com and follow the instructions for establishing a new email account.
Your instructor will provide you with the links to the Wimba audio resources for your course or you may be provided with a user ID and password to log into Wimba.
Instructors who need a new Wimba account or who are having difficulty accessing their wimba account, send an email to: jholzkne@austincc.edu or call 223-8011.
Once you have a user ID and password, you can log into Wimba at: http://austincc.horizonwimba.com/austincc/ .
