There are a couple of ways to access Wimba audio resources. One is by accessing Wimba from within Blackboard. The other way is by logging in to Wimba with a user ID (email address) and password.

Your instructor will provide you either with instructions on how to access Wimba's audio resources from within Blackboard or you will be given your User ID and Password via email in order to log into Wimba's system.

ACCESSING WIMBA FROM WITHIN BLACKBOARD

Links to Wimba's audio resources can made from within Blackboard or from within an external course web page.

If the audio resource is within Blackboard, it will be in one of the three following Blackboard course content areas:

  • Syllabus
  • Course Documents
  • Assignments

These course content areas are available from Blackboard's upper left menu options on your course's main course. Once you select one of the three course content areas listed above, locate the name of the audio resource your instructor has provided for you. There will be a link to the audio communication tool just below the name of the audio resource.

The types of audio communication files that can be accessed within Blackboard are:

  • Voice announcements
  • Live synchronous voice chat
  • Audio message blogs
  • Email with embedded audio

In addition, your instructor can record general voice announcements which will be available on the main Blackboard course announcement's page.

ACCESSING WIMBA BY LOGGING IN TO THE Wimba WEB SITE

If you are not accessing an audio resource from within Blackboard or a course web page, you will need to log into Wimba's web site (http://austincc.horizonwimba.com/austincc/).

Your instructor will provide you with a User ID and Password to access and log into the Wimba system. If you have not received an email with your Wimba User ID (email address) and Password, please contact your instructor.

To access an audio resource by logging into Wimba's web site, do the following:

  1. Obtain a Wimba account. Students must contact their instructor to get an account. Faculty and staff must contact the ACC Wimba Administrator for an account.

  2. Log in to Wimba using the username and password that was provided to you. The username and password is case-sensitive.

  3. When you first logon to Wimba it is recommeded to change your password. To change your password follow these steps:

    • Under Personal Information select Password.

    • In the Old Password box, type in the current password. In the password and confirm password boxes, type in a new password. When you have entered the new password, select submit.

    • Log out of Wimba and log back in to ensure your new password works.

  4. Once you logged in to Wimba, navigate the site to become familiar with the features.

  5. There are student help guides and faculty help guides to assist you while you use the Wimba Voice Tools.

  6. Any time you need help, review the Wimba Support section, contact your instructor or contact the ACC Help Desk at 223-HELP (4357) or email them at helpdesk@austincc.edu.
